Zero-Downtime Process

Your step-by-step migration plan.

Unlike traditional migrations, our process keeps your current email working until everything is verified.

STEP 01

Sign Up for InboxCore

Create your InboxCore account and select your plan. Your new mailbox will be ready within minutes. No domain changes yet — your old email continues working normally.

Keep your old email service active during migration
STEP 02

Import Your Existing Emails

Transfer all your existing emails, folders, and contacts to InboxCore using IMAP sync. This runs in the background while your old service remains fully operational.

Migration happens alongside your active email — no interruption
STEP 03

Test & Verify Everything

Configure your email clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, mobile) and verify all emails synced correctly. Send test messages between accounts to ensure delivery works.

Both email systems work simultaneously during this phase
STEP 04

Update DNS Records

Once verified, update your domain's MX, SPF, and DKIM records to point to InboxCore. DNS changes propagate within 1-24 hours. New emails start arriving at InboxCore.

Critical: Only change DNS after migration is verified
STEP 05

Disconnect Old Provider

After confirming all new mail arrives at InboxCore and DNS has fully propagated, you can safely cancel your old email service. We recommend keeping it active for 48-72 hours as backup.

Zero downtime — old service worked until the switch was complete

Important for Custom Domain Users

If you're using a custom domain with your current mail server (not Gmail/Yahoo/etc), your MX records are already pointing to your old provider. This means we must complete the migration before changing DNS — otherwise new emails would arrive at InboxCore before your old emails are transferred.

Our process handles this correctly: we copy your existing emails first, verify everything, then update DNS. This ensures zero message loss regardless of your current setup.
